This workshop is designed to help people develop the skills and confidence to begin collecting, identifying, and safely eating wild edible mushrooms. Activities will include a photo presentation of edible Midwest mushrooms, practice identification with fresh specimens, and a mushroom foray in the woods of the Arboretum. We will end the day learning basic mushroom culinary techniques, cooking wild mushroom pizzas together, and sampling our creations. Edibility guidelines, cautions and other pointers will be provided for each \"form group\" of mushrooms, with emphasis on the most common, delicious, and readily identifiable mushrooms found in the Midwest.

Dozens of species of edible/inedible/poisonous mushrooms will be on display!

Bring snacks, a bag lunch, camera, notebook, mosquito-proof clothing, and mushrooms you are curious about or just want to share! THE MORE MUSHROOMS, THE MERRIER!

Instructors Sarah & Nick Jordan are knowledgeable and enthusiastic collectors and cultivators of edible fungi. They have mushroomed everywhere from the rainforests of Hawaii to the mountains of Pacific Northwest, but are most impressed by the diversity and abundance of mushrooms in the Midwest field, forest, and lawn.
