National Public Lands Day 2026 will be Saturday, September 26. This is a statewide event that provides unique opportunities for Minnesota Master Naturalist Volunteers to participate in our largest single-day of service. Locations across the state will have MNats and others out helping to make Minnesota a better place!
Friends and family are welcome to participate, but must be registered to participate. Everyone will sign a photo release upon site registration. All participants will receive a free NPLD MNat t-shirt as a thank you for participating. You can add additional participant names in the comment field.
Registration by September 4th is required to receive a t-shirt. Registration will close on September 18th for participation in the event without a t-shirt.
We'll have a more specific answer as it gets closer - our needs heavily depend on the season and how many wildlife patients we have. It will likely be a mix of indoor and outdoor work (organizing sheds, storage rooms, re-mulching some of our outdoor enclosures, cleaning indoor enclosures). There will likely not be much, if any, animal handling as part of this experience, that would require a bit more of an orientation and training for the volunteers (but they'll definitely get to see some of the animals!).
Bring: Water bottles, work gloves, boots/closed toed shoes, clothes they're willing to get dirty, they can absolutely bring a snack but it has to be eaten outside of our buildings (we also only have a very small refrigerator for refrigerated items, so limited space for that), long pants are probably best but short sleeves are fine (no crop tops).

Instructor Information
Amy holds a BA in Elementary Education from the College of St. Scholastica and a MEd in Environmental Leadership and Learning from the University of MN. With over 30 years of experience in cooperative extension, Amy's career has been dedicated to intertwining her work with a passion for the environment. Since its inception in 2005, she has been an integral part of the Minnesota Master Naturalist program. Hailing from the Duluth area, Amy is a true native Minnesotan who has always cherished the outdoors, finding joy in sharing her love and knowledge with others.
