VOL - Volunteer Stewardship Project: Buckthorn and Honeysuckle Removal

Volunteer Stewardship Project: Buckthorn and Honeysuckle Removal website

Morgan Road
Chatfield, MN 55923

Come out and help us remove invasive buckthorn and honeysuckle at Pin Oak Prairie SNA, along the Root River's Middle Branch. This site supports a high-quality sedge meadow, an oak-shagbark hickory woodland, and one of the last and largest remnants of dry barrens prairie in southeast Minnesota.

Tools, instructions, and good camaraderie will be provided. Bring water, snacks, and dress for working in the weather. Footwear appropriate for outdoor work/hiking is recommended. If you have your own gloves you'd like to use, please bring those as well. There are no maintained trails, public restrooms nor access to drinking water on this site.

Prior to the event, please watch the Buckthorn Blaster Training Video and take the Buckthorn Blaster Volunteer Quiz. This will allow you to use buckthorn blasters to treat cut stumps. Please email sna.dnr@state.mn.us once you've completed the training and to register for the day. Registration in-advance is required.

Directions From Chatfield 4 miles SW on Co Rd 5, then .07 mile S on Twp Rd 332 (Morgan Rd). Park in pull-off on E.
