VOL - Dual Stewardship Project: Seed Collection and Buckthorn Removal-Spring Creek Prairie- Red Wing
Wild Turkey LnRed Wing, MN 55066
Join us in collecting native prairie seed and removing invasive buckthorn at Spring Creek Prairie SNA.
Enjoy this site of outstanding biological diversity while you help restore the oak savanna character on the site's north-facing bluffs. The SNA features broad bluffs that rise to narrow ridge tops, then slope down into wooded ravines that are being restored to oak savanna.
Tools, instructions, and good camaraderie will be provided. Bring water, lunch, and dress for working in the weather. If you have your own gloves you'd like to use, please bring those as well. Footwear appropriate for outdoor work/hiking is recommended. There are no maintained trails, public restrooms nor access to drinking water on this site.
Prior to the event, if you plan to help remove buckthorn, please watch the Buckthorn Blaster Training Video and take the Buckthorn Blaster Volunteer Quiz. This will allow you to use buckthorn blasters to treat cut stumps. Please email sna.dnr@state.mn.us once you've completed the training and to register for the day. Registration in-advance is required. Please indicate if you'd like to assist with collecting seed or removing buckthorn when you register.
