We need volunteer help for our 2026 City Nature Challenge featured events!
Minnesota Master Naturalist is hosting informal BioBlitz-type events at several locations around the Twin Cities Metro region during the weekend to help encourage participation in the City Nature Challenge. Each site will do something a little different, but the primary goal will be to get volunteers out making observations on iNaturalist.
The event at the Sherburne NWR will be from 10 AM-2 PM and include opportunities for a General Nature Hike. The meeting point will be at the Oak Savanna Learning Center.
Volunteer roles needed:
BioBlitz event hosts: Volunteers will act as hosts at each of the local events. This includes helping volunteers know where to park, get oriented to the site, provide an introduction to the activities of the event, facilitate a wrap-up discussion, and be a liaison between the state event coordinators and the event location. One person could play both roles of iNaturalist coach and event host.
iNaturalist coaches: We’ll assign a couple of volunteers who are familiar with iNaturalist to this event. You will help people make their observations in the app, advise them how to take a suitable photo, encourage them to make observations, troubleshoot if they’re getting stuck. Basic knowledge of iNaturalist is needed for this role, but it will be very informal, one-on-one conversations.
