Throughout the winter, there are a number of insects that are active as the winter air warms during bright, sunny days. Spiders, craneflies, caddisflies, and springtails all can be found wander across the surface of the snow, looking for prey or even to breed during the deep winter months. This final field trip of our winter season hopes to explore the later part of winter to see a few of these interesting critters and learn about how in the world these cold-blooded creatures can survive the frigid north.
This field trip will include indoor and outdoor portions, so do dress accordingly. Please bring anything that you might find helpful for observing small critters, such as optics or cameras. We will likely spend some time outdoors slowing walking around, looking for bugs! Note taking materials are always useful for courses like this as well! Plan on bringing a lunch and any snacks that you might need through the day. If you have any other questions about this class, please let Head Naturalist Clinton know following your registration for the course by emailing naturalist@saxzim.org
The course cost is $35 and includes course manuals and supplies.
