The Minnesota Historical Society Volunteer Services thttps://minnesotamasternaturalist.org/dashboard/volunteerproposals/add.php#eam is seeking volunteers to assist with an outdoors project at Jeffers Petroglyphs (location here) on Saturday, August 9th from 10am-3pm. We will need volunteers to work with Jeffers Petroglyphs staff and coordinators to remove the invasive Queen Anne's lace and wild parsnip from the prairie surrounding the site in order to best preserve its natural status.
Jeffers Petroglyphs is an internationally significant Native American sacred site and the location of the largest group of Indigenous petroglyphs (rock carvings) in the Midwestern United States. Situated in Dakota homeland, it is sacred to multiple Native American nations, including the Cheyenne, Arapaho, Iowa, and Ojibwe. We appreciate all available volunteers who can lend a hand and help us remove exotic plant species encroaching on this special place.
Lunch, snacks, tools, water, gloves, and sunscreen will be provided. Volunteers will also have an opportunity to go on a guided tour and view the historic Petroglyphs at the end of their shift.
Please sign up for your shift by clicking this link and completing the corresponding form.
Any questions or concerns can be directed through the form, and I will be happy to help address them as soon as possible. We appreciate any and all interest and participation in this opportunity.
