This course is part of a 3 course series of introductions at Eastman Nature Center. Participants can sign up for 1, 2, or all 3 sections that provide a strong foundation in species identification.

We will cover basic tree biology, use of a dichotomous key, tools and resources for identification and local natural history. We will spend more than half our time in the field identifying trees of the maple basswood forest. We will focus on the process of tree ID vs. identifying as many species as possible. Travel up to 1/2 mile on turf trails.

The course cost is $12 and includes course manuals and supplies.

Instructor Information

Anne Jaeger

Anne has been an outdoor educator for over 25 years and is known for creating adventuresome and safe learning experiences for people ages 3 to 93 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, is a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), a Leave No Trace (LNT) Master Educator, PSIA Nordic ski instructor and is currently fascinated with mushrooms. Her world travels have taken her from the rivers and eskers of the Arctic Circle to the mountains and glaciers of Patagonia.
