Feathers are the first thing we see when we look at birds! But how much do you know about these structures that allow birds to fly, become insulated against water and wind, or display fitness to potential mates? This Advanced Training will take a deep dive into everything feathers from basic feather structures, to how feathers influence bird evolution, and more!

This field trip will be entirely indoors. Please bring a hand lens (if you do not have a hand lens there are plenty to borrow!) or other optics to help you see close up. Notebooks, cameras, and other items that you might find useful for time out in the field would be useful. Bring a lunch, refillable water bottle (water is available for refills at the Welcome Center), and any cameras or notetaking materials you might need for the day.
