National Public Lands Day 2024 is a statewide event that provides unique opportunities for Minnesota Master Naturalist Volunteers to participate in our largest single day of service. Locations across the state will have MNats and others out helping to make Minnesota a better place!
Friends and family are welcome to participate, but must be registered to participate. Everyone will sign a photo release upon site registration. All participants will receive a free NPLD branded item and a day pass to a national park as a thank you for participating.
We will take a short walk through the woods and learn how to identify buckthorn and honeysuckle and find out why they and other invasive species are a threat to natural systems. We will work on removing buckthorn and honeysuckle in key areas by cutting with loppers or small hand saws and treating the stumps with herbicide or pulling using weed wrenches. Volunteers will not be required to handle herbicide if they do not wish to.
Volunteers should wear long sleeves, pants, and sturdy footwear for working in the woods appropriate for the weather. Wear bug and sun protection, and bring work gloves. Bring your own water and snacks.
