Red River Water Festival website
202 1st Ave NMoorhead , MN 56560
The Red River Water Festival is September 16-20, 23-24 at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead (16th being just set up). Classrooms will rotate through interactive activities to learn about water.
What is a Water Festival?
A water festival is an educational, fun-filled hands-on learning opportunity for 4th grade classrooms, which will increase a student’s awareness and knowledge of water. A variety of topics such as watersheds, water treatment, water properties, and the water cycle will be presented in an interactive format. Volunteer Shifts:
We have a lot of shifts to fill! Have a group that wants to sign up to volunteer? Consider scheduling a time for River Keepers staff to come to you and present about our history, the water festival, and get your group signed up for shifts in person.
Activity Assistant: Assist our presenters with interactive fun activities to teach 4th graders about the importance of water (possible topics include water properties, wetlands, fish, conservation, quality, history, etc.) Possible tasks could include prepping and handing out supplies to students, holding up signage for presenters, and cleaning up before the next class rotates in.
Activity Leader Interest Indicator: Lead an activity. This is an interest indicator, so we will follow up with you to confirm your registration. Activity leaders require prior experience and the ability to teach at a 4th grade level. If this is your first water festival, consider being an activity assistant instead. Contact Christine@riverkeepers.org for more information or sign up directly.
Timers: Give signals to our presenters to let them know it is time to rotate classrooms.
On-call volunteers: Willing to fill in when the unexpected happens and we have last-minute openings? Sign up to be “on call” to fill in for activity assistant and timer positions.
Check in volunteers: Check in volunteers, guide them to their spot, and give instructions for activity assistants, timers, and photographers.
Set up: September 16, morning and afternoon shifts. Help haul supplies, set up canopies outside, or teacher resource bags inside.
Raise Canopies: September 17-20, 23-25 from 7:15 - 8:15 a.m.
Lower Canopies: September 17-18 from 1:40 - 2:40 p.m. or September 19-20, 23-25 from 11:05 - 12:05 p.m.
