The West Metro Chapter is happy to continue its book group, ramping up again in September after a summer break. We meet about every 5 weeks at The Thinking Spot, a local bookstore just north of Minnetonka Blvd and 101. Our September book is Fen, Bog, and Swamp: A Short History of Peatland Destruction and Its Role in the Climate Crisis by Annie Proulx (Named Best Book of the Year by New Yorker and Literary Hub and finalist for NBCC Awards in Nonfiction, the 2023 Phillip D. Reed Environmental Writing Award, and the NEIBA 2023 New England Book Award. Lee Scholder will facilitate a discussion of this wide-ranging book. Earlier this summer, some pre-orders were arranged with Rima, the bookstore owner, and a couple copies are still available (if you'd like one, email rima@thethinkingspot.us) Heads up about upcoming book and pre-orders. We will meet on Oct 29th at 4pm for a discussion of our next book, Blue Mind: The Surprising Science that Shows How Being Near, In, On, or Under Water Can Make You Happier, Healthier, More Connected, and Better at What You Do by Wallace Nichols. If you'd like to pre-order a copy to hopefully arrive before the Sept 24th meeting, email Rima at rima@thethinkingspot.us by Friday, September 8th.
