National Public Lands Day 2023 is a statewide event that provides unique opportunities for Minnesota Master Naturalist Volunteers to participate in our largest single day of service. Locations across the state will have MNats and others out helping to make Minnesota a better place!
Friends and family are welcome to participate, but must be registered to participate. Everyone will sign a photo release upon site registration. All participants will receive a free NPLD water bottle as a thank you for participating.
We'll meet at the Kingsbury Creek Trailhead near Fairmont Park then hikeabout a mile to a pine forest restoration project. There is some elevation change and a bit of uneven ground expected on the hike. At the project site, we have a forest of white pine that were planted between 5-7 years ago and are ready to have their cages and weed mats removed. We will also prune the lower branches to prevent White Pine Blister Rust infection. All equipment will be provided.
Pruners, wire cutters, and gloves will be provided, or feel free to bring your own gloves if you prefer. Dress for the woods - long pants, boots, and long sleeve shirts recommended. Please bring water bottles (note - there is no water on site), snacks and a lunch if you plan on staying the full time.
