National Public Lands Day 2023 is a statewide event that provides unique opportunities for Minnesota Master Naturalist Volunteers to participate in our largest single day of service. Locations across the state will have MNats and others out helping to make Minnesota a better place!

Friends and family are welcome to participate, but must be registered to participate. Everyone will sign a photo release upon site registration. All participants will receive a free NPLD water bottle as a thank you for participating.

Volunteers will be doing Invasive plant removal and site preparations for winter natives seed sowing and spring natives plug planting. This will entail buckthorn and honeysuckle removal (pull, cut, and pile), thinning of over prolific trees, removal of cattails and purple loosestrife, pulling of weeds.

Chainsaw certified volunteers would be an asset at this site. Volunteers with knowledge of aquatic invasive species, such as cattails and purple loosestrife would be welcome!

Please bring gloves and water (snacks provided). Additional items to bring (only if people have them available) shovels, waders, buckthorn pullers, hard rakes, hedge sheers (and chainsaw for any certified volunteers), tarps for moving/dragging vegetation to piles, loppers.

The work at this site will restore these degraded wetlands and surrounding habitat, and this overall project will improve the environmental education opportunities for Elementary and Middle School students in Bloomington.
