VOL - Mille Lacs Moraine SNA Self-guided BioBlitz
Mille Lacs Moraine SNA Self-guided BioBlitz website
Co Rd 26Garrison, MN 56450
Want to participate in community science and enjoy the outdoors this summer? Then this self-guided BioBlitz at Mille Lacs Moraine SNA is a perfect opportunity for you. For two weeks, head over to Mille Lacs Moraine SNA anytime that works for you and make some iNaturalist observations or help identify observations from home.
Mature hardwood forest dominates the uplands, with red oak, sugar maple and basswood. Low-lying areas host a range of open and forested wetland communities, including wet ash swamp, rich tamarack swamp, willow-dogwood swamp, poor fen, cattail marsh and sedge meadow. Sunfish Lake?frequented by nesting loons?lies entirely within the SNA, along with portions of Fawcett and Hogsback Lakes.
To participate, sign up on iNaturalist by joining the Mille Lacs Moraine SNA Self-guided BioBlitz Project opens in a new browser tab and read the journal postings, in which you'll find event updates, guidelines and tips, before visiting the site. Results will be shared with participants, and verified research grade observations will be featured on iNaturalist. During your visit, please wear sturdy footwear, long pants, and be prepared to navigate rough terrain.
Can't make it there? Stay tuned for future self-guided BioBlitzes throughout the state. Remember, you contribute by making observations on any SNA near you!
