Avon Hills Forest SNA
Albany, MN 56307

Come out and help us remove invasive species at Avon Hills SNA. The task for the day will be pulling young buckthorn, a plant that invades woodland areas and out-competes native species. This SNA is characterized by rolling topography which supports extensive hardwood forest. The landscape is dotted with wet depressions, pot holes and lakes. Uplands are dominated by mesic oak forest, while lowland plant communities feature tamarack swamp and black ash seepage swamp. Advanced registration is required, and the event will be capped at 25 attendees. To register, please email sna.dnr@state.mn.us. We want all visitors to feel safe and welcome. Please consider wearing a face covering when unable to maintain 6-feet of social distance. Tools, instructions, and good camaraderie will be provided. Bring water, snacks, and dress for working in the weather. Footwear appropriate for outdoor work/hiking is recommended. If you have your own gloves you'd like to use, please bring those as well.
