National Public Lands Day is the single largest day of service for the Minnesota Master Naturalist Program. There are 16 sites across Minnesota providing volunteer service for conservation efforts.

Volunteers will be working on removal and control of Canada thistle and other invasive plants from Sugarloaf Cove, with special care to preventing spread to Sugarloaf Point SNA. Training on Canada thistle will be provided at the beginning of the work day for those who wish it. Control methods may include both chemical control for invasive thistles and manual control for other invasives. If herbicides are used, specific training and guidance will also be provided. Bring water, lunch, work gloves, and weed pullers or hand tools if available. Long pants, long sleeves, and rubber gloves are all recommended PPE for herbicide application. Coffee will be provided in the AM.

If you are interested in volunteering, but are unable to join in field work, please email dominique@sugarloafnorthshore.org to discuss alternative options!

All volunteers will receive a free national park day pass and a t-shirt! Family and friends are welcome to participate but will need to sign up to receive t-shirt. They can create a visitor account to register.
