VOL - NPLD-Crow Hassan Park, Prairie Seed collection, Rogers
Rogers, MN 55341
National Public Lands Day is the single largest day of service for the Minnesota Master Naturalist Program.
There are 16 sites all across Minnesota providing volunteer service for conservation efforts. You can join in to collect native prairie seed and help increase plant diversity in nearly 2,000 acres of restored prairie at Crow Hassan Park Reserve, managed by Three Rivers Park District. This event is hosted by the West Metro Chapter and Three Rivers Park District.
What you need to know: --Seed collectors work in sunny open areas, walk through tall grass on uneven terrain and collect seed by hand. --Collection sites are in remote areas of the park. Therefore, volunteers must arrive on time or early at the designated meeting location. The group is then led to remote collection sites. --Volunteers must come prepared for the weather and bring something to drink (and a snack to eat if staying for the entire time). Water and restroom facilities will necessitate a hike. --While handled grocery bags will be provided, please consider bringing three or four smaller handled bags (which are easier to manage than the larger ones). Also consider wearing a belt; volunteers find that threading a belt through one handle of each bag leaves their hands free for easier collecting. --Call the “Seed Collection Hotline” (763.694.7849) to check message on collection day for rain cancellation.
All volunteers will receive a free national park day pass and a t-shirt! Family and friends are welcome to participate, but need to sign up to receive t-shirt. They can create a visitor account to register.
