VOL - Volunteer Stewardship Project: Wild Parsnip Pull at Iron Horse SNA
Volunteer Stewardship Project: Wild Parsnip Pull at Iron Horse SNA website
Iron Horse Prairie SNAHayfield, MN 55940
Iron Horse Prairie SNA is the finest and largest example of mesic tallgrass prairie remaining in this corner of the state. Join us in our efforts to bag as much wild parsnip as possible in order to prevent it from spreading its seed further into the site. The juice of wild parsnip, in the presence of sunlight, can cause a rash, blistering and discoloration of the skin (phytophotodermatitis). Due to this concern, the event is limited to adults. Advanced registration is required, and the event will be capped at 25 attendees. To register, please email sna.dnr@state.mn.us. We want all visitors to feel safe and welcome. Please consider wearing a face covering when unable to maintain 6-feet of social distance. Please dress appropriately; wear long sleeves, long pants, and boots. Tools and gloves will be provided. Bring water and snacks you will need while on the site. There are no maintained trails, public restrooms nor access to drinking water on the site. Directions: From Hayfield 1 mile S on MN Hwy 56, then 0.5 mile E on Co Rd N (740th St). Park in lot on S, at old railroad grade. Contact: Tieran Rosefield, SNA Volunteer Outreach Specialist, at 651-259-5165 or tieran.rosefield@state.mn.us
