ADV - Winter Birds and Bird Watching

Winter Birds and Bird Watching website

8793 Owl Avenue
Toivola , MN 55765

The Sax-Zim Bog is a world famous bird watching location. Most of the visitors to the Bog come during the winter season with hopes of seeing owls, winter finches, Canada Jays, and more! Due to the size of the Sax-Zim Bog, it can be a daunting place to visit, especially when you consider the cold weather and sometimes difficult driving conditions.

This Advanced Training will focus on the basics of bird watching in the winter, with a focus on the birds of Sax-Zim Bog. We will also be discussing winter adaptations some of these species have, as well as investigating what makes Sax-Zim Bog such important winter habitat for these birds. Plan on bringing a pair of binoculars, cameras, and notebook (if you like taking notes!). Expect to be outside for the entire course duration. Dress according to the weather conditions for the day, as we will spend some time walking outside and traveling by car from location to location.

Plan on bringing a lunch and any other snacks and water you may need for the day. There will be little walking and any walking to be done will be on even ground in winter conditions.

There is no fee for this event.
