VOL- Conservation Easement Monitor with the Minnesota Land Trust: (Ongoing)

Conservation Easement Monitor with the Minnesota Land Trust: (Ongoing) website

Opportunity, MN 55555

Conservation easements are forever. With each easement, the Minnesota Land Trust accepts responsibility to protect that land and its conservation values into the future. Our Easement Stewardship program is designed to make sure that we meet that responsibility for each conservation easement in perpetuity. Volunteer monitors assist the Land Trust with our annual obligation to visit each protected property and ensure the conservation values protected by the easement remain intact. For the most part, this is accomplished by direct visual observation as the monitor walks the protected property, which are spread throughout the state. Monitors also conduct brief interviews with the landowner to discuss changes to the land, upcoming plans, or questions and concerns they might have that relate to the easement.

All volunteers (new and returning) participate in annual training in the early spring, and new volunteers will also join a staff member on at least one monitoring visit to obtain on the ground experience before receiving their own assignments. Volunteers typically average 3-5 property visits each year, which translates to an average volunteer effort of 10-25 hours annually. We do ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of two years of service.
