Do you have a passion for Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, and enjoy working with people and providing excellent customer service? If so, refuge staff would love to hear from you! There are opportunities for volunteers to assist in the Rapids Lake visitor center to put those passions to use.

With the Minnesota Valley NWR's Rapids Lake visitor center operating in careful consideration for COVID-19 safety and mitigation, staff are seeking support at the information desks. August 1 - September 7, visitor center hours and days are Friday- Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Effective September 7, hours and days will be Tuesday – Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. We are looking for volunteers to fill opening and closing shifts. One shift will be from 9:45 a.m. - 1 p.m. and the other shift will be from 1 – 4:15 p.m.

Interested? Here’s a sampling of what volunteering at the information desks includes:

· Greet and interact with the public, and provide high quality customer service to visitors
· Orient visitors to trails, lands, and experiences across the refuge’s 14,000 acres and 46+ miles of trails.
· Promote upcoming refuge events and activities
· Interact with groups that may be visiting or using facilities
· Answer telephone, route calls to staff
· Check out backpacks, binoculars, and other lending items to the public
· May include assorted light tasks while on duty
