VOL - Late Season PlantBlitz
Wayzata, MN 55391
Come celebrate 50 years of preserving some of the most special natural areas in Minnesota by joining in an evening in the Big Woods to identify late summer plant species at Wood-Rill SNA. SNA staff and volunteers will conduct an informal evening field study at this SNA, an outstanding example of "Big Woods" forest. This is a great way to join others interested in learning to identify native plants.
We hope to identify late season species such as grasses, asters, goldenrods and some wetland plants, to complement the species list created at the spring BioBlitz event on May 9th, 2019. We will also use the iNaturalist app to document species and will have a short tutorial on how to use the app, so if you would like to try it out please download the app prior to the event. The results from this survey will be added directly to the current species list on the website.
No experience necessary, just bring your curiosity, enthusiasm and a smartphone if you'd like to use iNaturalist. Plant experts willing to help lead would be welcome, please contact Kari Wallin, SNA Volunteer and Site Steward Specialist (see below).
Note: the site has no facilities. Dress for the weather and doing survey work on variable terrain (sturdy footwear and long pants), and bring snacks and water.
We will meet in the parking lot at 5 pm to kick off the event.
