ADV - After Lake Itasca - River Bend Lunch and Learn
Faribault, MN 55021
Join us once a month for a catered meal and nature presentation.
In June, we’ll hear from Patrick Mader about his extended canoe trip.
Patrick Mader and a friend (both in their mid-60s) are canoeing from Lake Itasca, the source of the Mississippi River, to Fort Snelling in St. Paul, Minnesota. The 500-mile trip is being completed in stages over the course of three years. Slides from the first stage after paddling Lake Itasca show the seldom seen vast wetlands, shallow and winding passageway, and limited camping sites before hitting the big open waters of Cass Lake and Lake Winnibigoshish. The second stage shows the wider and more powerful current of the Upper Mississippi River as tributaries join it and we paddle and portage to St. Cloud through northern and central Minnesota cities built to utilize the power of the river. The final stage (to be canoed in 2019) will include the recreational and industrial use of the river as we near the metropolitan area.
The course cost is $12 and includes course manuals and supplies.
