ADV - An Introduction to Ferns and Clubmosses

An Introduction to Ferns and Clubmosses website

8793 Owl Avenue
Meadowlands, MN 55765

Ferns and clubmosses are an enigmatic part of northern Minnesota’s forests and bogs. Nearly every trail you walk in a local or state park has a species or two of fern, but have you ever stopped to identify what species you are encountering along the trail? In the Sax-Zim Bog, clubmosses make up a huge part of the understory in the Warren Nelson, Fermoy, and Blue Dasher Bogs. This training will hope to shed some light on this diverse group of non-plants to help build your ID skills while observing your local ferns and clubmosses.

The course meets at the Friends of Sax-Zim Bog Welcome Center (8793 Owl Avenue Meadowlands, MN 55765). There is an option to carpool from Duluth to the Welcome Center if needed/interested. Carpooling will be organized by the instructor.

Bring a lunch and any other snacks and water you may need for the day. There will be some hiking done in wet and uneven conditions. Accommodations can be made for reduced mobility if needed.

The course cost is $50 and includes course manuals and supplies.
