ADV - Dragonfly and Damselfly Field Training and Exploration
Meadowlands, MN 55765
Minnesota is home to over 150 species of dragonfly and damselfly, known collectively as odonates. These attractive and abundant insects are easily observed, but can sometimes be tricky to identify! Odonates have fascinating life histories and this training will explore each part of their life history, including their aquatic life stage! Recently, dragonflies and damselflies have become targets of cameras and nets and “dragonflying” has become a popular across the US. We hope to observe some of the 77 species of dragonfly and damselfly found in the Sax-Zim Bog through this trip.
Plan on bringing a lunch and be willing to car pool from Duluth to the Sax-Zim Bog. Bring a lunch and any other snacks and water you may need for the day. There will be some hiking done in wet and uneven conditions. Accommodations can be made for reduced mobility if needed. Extra dragonfly nets and hand lenses are available for those who may not have one!
The course cost is $50 and includes course manuals and supplies.
