BWBR - Robert Ney Memorial Park Reserve-Wright County
Maple Lake, MN 55358
Learn about the Big Woods, Big Rivers biome at Wright County Parks’ Robert Ney Memorial Park Reserve west of Monticello. With the nature center as our base, we’ll explore the plants, animals, history, geology, hydrology and ecology of Minnesota’s deciduous forests and waterways.
Through classroom presentations and field trips, you’ll gain valuable tools for exploring the natural world and sharing it with others. We’ll spend a good part of each class developing those skills.
This marks the seventh consecutive year the Big Woods, Big Rivers course has been taught at Robert Ney Memorial Park Reserve.
The course runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, through Friday, Aug. 16, and 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 17. The schedule includes four short field trips plus one daylong outing in Wright County parks and Lake Maria State Park.
Participants will complete and present a group capstone project during the course. Suggestions will be provided.
Graduates then volunteer 40 hours each year to remain active Master Naturalist volunteers.
Meals are on your own. A microwave and small refrigerator are available. We’ll provide lunch during the daylong field trip.
The course cost is $295 and includes course manuals and supplies.
If the course cost is a hardship, please fill out the scholarship application and send it to us.
