Join staff from the Carlton County Land Department for National Public Lands Day 2018. The meeting location for this event might change. We will update with that information once we have it.

Description of work: Volunteers will collect improved jack pine and white spruce cones from an improved tree orchard. The orchard is managed to provide seed for the growth of seedlings that are planted statewide!

Skill requests: Ability to bend/reach down/up to pick cones off of tree branches.

Special tools and supplies: Expendable gloves that allow some dexterity. Gloves will be covered with pitch after the collection so don’t use any high-value gloves.

Need: The collection of cones for seed from this orchard ensures that habitat managers have trees that are the best of the best for reforestation efforts across our region. These families of white spruce and jack pine have proven to grow better than the average for these species in our region.

Register before September 7th to receive a Minnesota Master Naturalist NPLD 2018 T-Shirt!
