VOL - SNA 50th Anniversary Volunteer Stewardship Project: Buckthorn Pull

SNA 50th Anniversary Volunteer Stewardship Project website

Quaker Rd
Albany, MN 56307

Come celebrate 50 years of preserving some of the most special natural areas in Minnesota by helping out at Avon Hills Forest SNA, a spectacular hardwood forest SNA in the in the heart of central Minnesota's 65,000-acre Avon Hills region. The region is known for its constellation of natural areas within the rolling terrain of the St. Croix Moraine. The task for the day will be removing invading buckthorn in the north unit of the SNA, in an effort to keep it from crowding out the native plant communities present in the SNA. We may also take a walk through the newest addition to the SNA, acquired in early 2019.

This event will be led by SNA Specialist Kris Hennig and SNA Volunteer and Site Steward Specialist, Kari Wallin. Please sign up by emailing kari.wallin@state.mn.us or calling 651-259-5165.

Tools, gloves, and good camaraderie will be provided. Bring water, lunch, and dress for working in the weather. Footwear appropriate for outdoor work/hiking is recommended. There are no maintained trails, public restrooms nor access to drinking water on this site.

To sign up and for more information, contact Kari Wallin at 651-259-5165 or by email at kari.wallin@state.mn.us.
