Meet your expert instructors for classes at the Vermilion Outdoor Learning Center on the shore of Fall Lake that flows into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. This 40 -hour program of hands-on classroom work and field lab studies incorporates the rich natural history, geology, and environmental history that has fashioned the Arrowhead Region from Canada to Lake Superior. Develop skills in environmental interpretation and conservation stewardship that will serve you well in your future volunteer or employment in the naturalist field. Early days of June will engage you in the breeding season of the North Woods both terrestrial and aquatic. Final certification comes with the completion of 40 hours of volunteer service. Canoes and kayaks and trails are available for use by participants.
Tuesday and Wednesday will be off site field trip days. Transportation is provided for these trips. You will visit, the International Wolf Center, Sigrid Olson's Listening Point, a local bog and MORE!! You don't want to miss this one!
Lodging is available at the Vermillion Community college Learning Center for $270 for the week. Sunday night check in through Saturday check out. Eight cabins which house multiple people. We will assign housing based on the response. You will be asked to identify your roommate in the registration process. Cabins come with linens, and kitchens. You will be responsible for your own meals during the week. Class will run June 11-June 16. M-F will be 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM and Saturday June 16 8:00 AM- noon.
The schedule needs to be completed in its entirety to meet the requirements to become a MN Master Naturalist Volunteer.
