"Invasive Species Monitoring and Removal
Last year at Old Koschak Farm WMA, invasive species were treated along the hunter walking trail and old home site including Tansy, Burdock, and Peashrub. For National Public Lands Day, we will monitor the treatments using EDDmaps and document any new occurrences. We may also remove new occurrences if appropriate. You will need to create an EDDmaps account ahead of time.
You can sign up for an EDDmaps account at https://www.eddmaps.org/midwest/ or download the Great Lake Early Detection Network “GLEDN” app to an apple or android device. "Gloves, a smartphone or device with EDDmaps installed or a camera, appropriate clothing for outdoors, and water, lunch, snacks, bugspray, and sunscreen as needed. Optional: pruners and loppers. Please have a mask along, so that when social distancing is not possible, you can wear it."
Sign up is required by September 18. Please bring a mask to be work when social distancing is not possible (registration, breaks, etc) All participants will be given a bandana and are asked to share an individual photo on social media, #MNatNPLD. Family members are invited to participate, but required to register.
Directions: From the east side of Ely proceed on Hwy 169 1/4 of a mile east. Turn left on Co. Rd. 88/Grant-McMahan Blvd. and go approximately 1.5 miles and the WMA will be on your right.
